Prebuy Inspections

Why do I need a Prebuy?

It’s a very valid question. One that we hear quite often, although we think the message is getting across as they have slowed down some. The main answer to this question is you never know how much money and/or time it will take to get some airplanes to a safe condition, or if it’s even possible. We are experts in Van’s RVs and can help you find the right airplane for you, while helping you avoid the ”wrong airplane”.

“If I find a good enough deal…I don’t need a prebuy”

We’ve heard this one too. “Even if it takes X amount of money to get it right, we’ll still come out ahead”. As the saying goes ”Aviation is hazardous to your wealth”, purchasing the wrong airplane can be a money and time sink. The average overhaul for an IO-360 is around $35k and $42k for an IO-540, Camshaft replacements run $15k+, top overhauls $10k+. Get us involved and you will know what you’re getting into.

How much does a Prebuy cost?

Prebuys are very thorough examination. They are priceless when it comes to understanding what you’re purchasing, similar to a home inspection when purchasing a house. We will let you know the current condition of the airplane, what maintenance needs to be performed immediately, what maintenance needs to be caught up on, as well as build quality, Panel wiring/operation, etc. You will get a very detailed report with a complete logbook review, annotated pictures of deficiencies or things done right, as well as our opinion about price, resale value, etc.

The cost of a prebuy is $1,950 per day, plus airline travel, if required, and rental car reimbursement. The fee is less if it the airplane is located close enough for us to travel by our own means.
